Wanna Go Fast? Buy Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Camaros

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s favorite color is orange, and cars more than prove it. Five cars recently went up on eBay that belong to the race hero and his sister Kelley Earnhardt: a custom Dick Herrell Edition 2002 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, a custom 1973 Chevrolet Camaro, and a 1994 Jeep Cherokee 4×4 were all under Jr.’s roof, and they all look like a color-match to an Orange Crush pop can.

The 2002, which only has 4,025, might be the most interesting. If you don’t know Dick Herrell, well, they didn’t call him “Mr. Chevrolet” for nothin’. He’s a former successful drag racer who also spent time as a mechanic and crew chief in the ’60s and ’70s. Because of his dedication and involvement with the brand, GMMG, Inc in Marietta, Georgia built special editions and sold them through Berger Chevrolet in Michigan.

The biggest changes to the 2002 Z28 were the widebody and the carbon fiber hood. The car originally had a LS6 V8, but in 2014, it was fitted with an LS7, “new cam and springs, comp cam rocker trunnions, Ferrara titanium retainers and locks, fast LSX intake, Nick Williams 102mm throttle body, and Kooks headers.” The listing claims that it could hit up to 670 horsepower, as if those Camaros didn’t already love shaking their tailfeathers. With a day left on the auction, it’s sitting at $90,000.

If a car that might take up two parking spaces isn’t your style, you could go for the classic ’73, which wears the same bright coloring with a matte black stripe down the center and black wheels. This one might not be a special edition, but it was specially built and has even less miles with only 2,174 on the clock.

This second-gen Camaro was built by Detroit Speed, which is actually in North Carolina, not Detroit. According to the listing, Jr. wanted a car inspired by the old Trans Am racing series of the ’70s. So, they basically made it one. It has a full roll cage, a racing fuel cell, Detroit Speed Engineering (DSE) Mini-Tubs, and DSE Quadra-Link. It’s powered by a LS2 and that’s linked to a six-speed manual transmission. But the interior might be the best part.

The inside is like stepping into a mechanical masterpiece. It’s all very raw-looking with metal bars striping the doors and across the entire dash. The car has a digital speedo, the seats have racing harnesses, and the steering wheel, shift knob, and pedals are all custom. It’s really a beautifully done car. That one will set you back $78,400, as of this writing.

The choice is yours!
