Talking 5.7 Hemi VS. 5.7 LS1

Well here's the deal. I have this friend in town who just bought an 07 Charger R/T, and we have talked a little about racing but not yet seeing as how she doesn't know how to drive it right just yet. She's only had it a couple of days and thsi is her first sports car.

Anyway, there is this guy she works with that swares up and down that her charger will outrun my 01 z28. In fact he and a friend of mine who has a 99 t/a have been arguing about it for a while. I even believe they have a 100$ bet riding on it.

So I am almost certain that I can take her, but I am gonna go ahead and ask what ya'll think anyway.

The specs I have read on the 07 R/Ts is 340hp, 390lb-ft tq, 0-60 in 5.3 seconds and run a 13.9 in the 1/4. They also say the curb weight is 4031 lbs. She's not the best driver in it yet, and it's also sittin on 20's from the factory, so I figure that will slow her down a bit. The car is bone stock, motor has 1600 miles on it.

My car is an 01 z28 that weighs 3400 lbs with 3/4 tank of gas and me out of it. I have an 85mm lid and 85mm maf, p/p tb, cat delete on stock y, msd wires, ngk plugs, and a 3" flowmaster catback with a cutout behind the axle.

I am pretty sure I have more hp than her and my car is way lighter and more aerodynamic, and she is pretty sure I wll win as well, but I wonder what ya'll think. Do you guys think I should get in on that bet they are makin about the race?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I have outran a g8 gt, which is supposed to be a 13.5 car, and a gp gxp with bolt-ons and a tune and a cobalt ss/tc and outran the second 2 by a good distance. The G8 put up a pretty good fight, but LS1 f-body for the win!!

Anyway just thought I would throw those out there because I figure the R/T should race one of them if they want a close race.

If she's an auto, she'll have a chance. With a stick, she'll either bog badly or light em up out of the hole. That extra 600lbs kills the performance on those cars. This should easily be your race.

Yea those dodge 5.7 cars make like 350hp but weight quite a bit. I take them with my bolt on LT1...Those SRT8 6.1's usually take me tho, but not by much.

I wouldn't waste my gas on that one unless there was money involved. You should take it easy.

Your mods? A SRT8 can not be "walked by" by a stock LS1...either that was not a true SRT8, he fell asleep or its just BS.

are those 6.1s really that fast? i mean isnt the new camaro faster than the new challenger? and 5th gens arent much faster than a 4th are they? ive taken two down at the strip but thats because they both happened to have slipping clutches it was only by two tenths though

or are they just quick from a roll, ive heard someone say they have some top end

Basic SRT8 specs:
Displacement
6.1L/370
SAE Net Horsepower @ RPM
425 @ 6200
SAE Net Torque @ RPM
420 @ 4800

Seems Chargers were mid to low 13 second cars and Challengers mid 13's. Obviously driver mod creates discrepancy.

It is true that the 5.7 MOPARs are slow when compared with the 5.7 GMs...basically because MOPARs are too heavy when compared with the, lets say, 4gen f-bodies. If you would like a bit of experimenting lets put a MOPAR 5.7 into a 4gen f-body and race that against a STOCK 4gen f-body...they will most probably be head to head all the way.

Now a 6.1 HEMI is another story and its quite superior to the 5.7 in every way. I have a SRT8 Magnum with some bolt-ons (CAI, catback) and modified PCM and it MOVES, it really does...
