454 LS2 build
Built the engine today over at Turn Key Engine Supply..
This 454 will be going into my '68 Camaro called Bad Penny. Should be in a ready to race in 1.5 weeks.
Darton MID sleeved LS2 block done by Steve over at Race Engine Develpment in Oceanside.
K1 crank
K1 rods
Darton sleeved LS2 block
ARP studs, mains dowel pinned
Trick Flow 235 heads
Comp 243/259 .624 114 LSA cam
Comp Ultra Gold 1.72 rockers
FAST 102mm intake
Comp magnum lifters
Comp push rods (7.450)
FAST injectors and fuel logs
Moroso oil pump
yada yada
4.185 bores using Darton's MID sleeves. Wiseco pistons.
Ready to head off to Westech for dyno runs on Wednesday.. 72cc TF 235 heads with 9.235 deck height and Cometic gaskets should yield 11.3:1 compression.
Will start the install on Friday. The Canton oil pan is off at our tig welder getting a little mod.
Any guesses as to what she puts down tomorrow (corrected).. Should be interesting.

Nice, I wish I would have went with the MID when I did mine. I'd like to hit mine with some laughing gas, but the dry liners really won't take much more than a 100 shot. For that, no sense bothering with it.
As for HP, you talking RW or Engine dyno? If RW, too many variables.
Think those cathedral port heads might hold you back a little ?
Mine did 559 RW and tires started slipping on the dyno. At 3K RPM it already had 450 lbs of torque. It has a small cam and it's fun to drive. I might do a larger cam soon......

Today was dyno day.. my guess (what I hoped for) was 650/620.. turned out to be a decent guess.
While the cam we're running is large compared to other LS cams it's not that big considering the displacement of the engine. COMP said I could pick up a bunch of tq/hp by moving to a more aggressive 112 LSA, but drivability and idle would suffer.
Since I don't want too much power and I want to keep my street friendly drivability we settled on a 114 LSA.
Fired right up.. idle was good and after some break in time Westech made some pulls and adjusted the A/F..
Best pull was 650 hp and 613 tq.. but the best part is that even down at 3500 rpm it's already making 550 lb/ft. The torque peeks at around 4600 and is still well over 500 up at 6500. That's the kind of torque curve I was looking for - flat and a bit weighted to the bottom/midrange area.
Friday we start installing.. this engine should serve me well while I CAREFULLY build my RHS blocked / Mast Motorsport headed 460 engine.
Ready to rumble:

Same basic engine with better heads. The RHS engine will be a 4.155 bore and a 4.250 stroke. If they made a 4.200 stroke I would have done that, but they don't. Mast Motorsports LS3 12-degree heads and a slightly bigger cam should make a bit more power.

Really? Steve never told me that about my dry sleeves?? He actually said i shouldn't have a problem if i ever wanted to squirt some juice at it. I don't like the stuff and never would do it but this statement kinda makes me wonder.........

Nice build! The pics are absolutely gorgeous!!
What stroke are you running? What is your redline? Did you consider maybe using a LS7 style head? Rectangular port heads, with those cubes, would of probably made more BUT that still doesn't take away from that engine build... badass!

Wow, I thought those cathedral port heads would hold you back a little. But from the Dyno sheet, looks pretty good ! Nice low end torque and good HP !
As for the comment about the Dry sleeves from ramairws6, I think Steve did say I could go up to a 150 shot, BUT it's all in the Tune. If the Tune is spot on, should not be a problem !
But for a 150 shot? I'm not going to bother with it. I may try a larger cam and see what it does.
