Castrol Edge
I saw some commercials for castrol edge and can't tell what it is. I looked around a couple forums and theres not really anything conclusive on it that I can find. Is it supposed to be better than syntec because I haven't heard of anyone that uses it instead of syntec. I think Im just going to stay away from royal purple just because its so expensive and some say it sucks and some say its the best thing since sliced bread. Just wanna know if it has any advantage over regular castrol synthetic since I can't find the german 10w30 kind anywhere.

As already reported the Castrol 0W-30 comes in at the higher end of the viscosity range established for 30 weight. It is designed to meet a Mercedes standard. Mobil 1 meets this same Mercedes specifciation with its 0-40W, which is for all intents and purposes just a "heavy" 30 weight. Neither of these oils (Castrol 0W-30 or Mobil1 0W-40) appear to meet GM's 4718m specification which has to do with resistance to heat and oxidation.
The Castrol Edge 5W-30 is a full synthetic and does meet the GM 4718m specification.

yeh, its big over here in Australia, i use it in my ls1 along with the castrol magnatec from time to time, with no problems at all and its cheaper than the mobil, everyone iv spoken to has said not to use the 0-40w castrol edge in the lsx engines as its too thin and rattles with the thin oil, the 5-30w is perfect along with the castrol magnatec 10-40w are perfect and are recommended by castrol.
gm here use a normal weight oil in the lsx engines and mobil 1 in the hsv's, which are just a tuned up version of the lsx, same internals just exhaust mods and minor tune difference between the engines.
