A good block sealer for all you big bore guys.
It's called Dyke and it's made by Conklin. It won't stop your radiator up and it will be there untill you drain it out.
Now you can save the long distance call to the shop that built your high dollar big bore sleeved motor when it starts loosing coolant. Just think of it as an extended warrenty.
Ain't it fun being a car guy!!!!

I gotta admit. You do pull a good one liner every now and then! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Re: A good block sealer for all you big bore guys.
well I wouldn't have a problem using block sealer if a sleeve leaked a tad. A dropping sleeve is a different story though!
Cast aluminum tends to have pores. Not much you can do about that either.
The stock liners in these motors are cast into place so the porous nature of the block is not really going to effect them.
But a press fit liner I can see having a problem every now and then.
You want to see how the aluminum is porous, try polishing it. While doing my chambers at a rough sand they looked great. When polished you can see the pores. Some areas worse than others.Just little air pockets during the casting.
I remember the 4.1 aluminum Cadillac motor from years ago.
When doing a coolant flush , YOU HAD TO ADD A GM organic 6 Pack of stop leak pellets to keep it from leaking.
This was a factory fix!
Joe as long as you have been around I am surprised a little stop leak would bother you <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
If it works who cares if it's a Band-Aid fix.
This is hotrodding man.
I do all my own work also, but even if I paid for a block I would understand this is not a huge issue.
Again, this is different from a dropped sleeve which is serious.
just my .02

Re: A good block sealer for all you big bore guys.
The sealer that Joe mentioned does work. They have a certain way to put it in to make sure it works though. Takes about 2 days to complete.
I tried it last year on a customers Detroit Diesel inline 6cyl turbo engine. He had a blown head gasket and needed to sell the machine. He had tried a few of the local auto parts sealers, but it still leaked. We put this stuff in and I'll be damned it if didn't seal it up. VERY hard to find though.
Would I put it in my new motor that the engine shop charged me $12,000.00-$13,000.00 for? Nope, I say they tear it down and fix it like it should be.

Damn, Terry doesn't even need to respond to this one anymore, he slapped you down pretty hard with his one-liner LOL!

Tony how come you have not been running you car??? Surely "Mister Six-Speed" himself would be out at the track with hhis Huggybear suit on driving his new 434 super stroker. Tony I hope you get more than just a cut in price and shop ***** time at MTI because you work hard at pimping.
Tony I've been meaning to ask but never got around to it, What ever happened to 99Redhawk??? How come he don't hang out at MTI anymore???? As much publicity as he got for MTI with the magizine article and all it looks like Jason would have gave him half of the place.
Uh oh.... I said the M word... This thread is good as deleted or moved
I know why "The Colonel" is not running his. He's afraid that it will drop another liner before he can sell his motor. Let's see that block was done almost a year ago. That means that it was one of many that was done before Pain's so that's got to be out of the liner droping batch. Hey Steve if a 422 can be bought that cheap why are you asking Twelve grand for a used one that came from the old liner droping batch of blocks from a year ago??? Does the twelve grand include a couple of cans of block sealer???
And Terry I know you're going to say something else about my car only running high elevens so go ahead. I think everybody likes you better when you are on me so maybe with my help you will finnally be thought of as something more than a troll mental problem from California.
Pro Stock Johnny... There's nothing I can say about you that everyone don't already know. However it's nice that you confirm it everytime you post.
And Tony before you are Steve delete or move this thread remember It started out about a good block sealer to use until Terry the Troll chimed in.

Re: A good block sealer for all you big bore guys.
BTW, Mr. Kizzageration, this block IS one of the "new ones" that MTI does IN HOUSE. Goodness, you just don't read so well or you'd know that by now! <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" /> And I quote from YOUR OWN locked thread!...
"I too had a coolant loss problem with my original 422 (not a dropped sleeve) but MTI promptly sent me another. Having a great warranty on a hot rod engine that's known to be raced is pretty awesome if you ask me. BTW, the original block was made back when MTI was still outhouseing their block work. The next block they did themselves and it's been flawless."
It was built in like August.
I've not been going to the track because since my divorce the ladies have been keeping me just a bit too busy. <img border="0" alt="[pimp]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_pimp.gif" /> I'm sure you can relate. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
P.S., this one's locked for...uhh...well, just for the helluvit! <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" />
