Re: Maximum tire size on a 17 x 9.5 wheel? Xsta Z28, I know I can go bigger than that. There are people running 315/35's on the same size wheel. I've heard that 315 is the MAX but folks debate if it's safe and looks terrible. Anyone got any pics of a 315 on a 9.5 inch rim?

When I had 295's put on my 10.5" wide rims the installer told me that 10" is the MINIMUM wheel width for a 295. So for your original question of what is the maximum width tire that can be run 'safely' on a 9.5" wide rim is: 285.
