Default Painting/Coating Roll Cage

I just bought a Wolfe Weld-in Roll Cage, and I'm going to have a friend weld it in my car.

What would guys suggest I do about protecting it from rusting? Paint or Powdercoat?

If you don't mind brush on paint and want to do a simple black tone, I'd look into POR-15 if I were you. It will resist scratching/chipping better than anything else.
