Headlight bulb question
I want to replace my low beam bulbs (9006's) with high beam bulbs (9005's). Can I do this or will I melt wires, housing, etc? My car is a '99 Z28. I am wanting to put in 9005 hyperwhite bulbs.

Re: Headlight bulb question
It's easy and works.
File off the plug guide tooth or teeth (forgot) on the plug end of the bulb. I used a Dremel. Once the bulb can be mounted to the socket, it is a perfect fit.
There is no issues with wiring. A regular high beam bulb is 55 or 65 watts, you can get 100s and they work fine. I have used 80/100w headlights in several cars/trucks.
Here is the catch though: The low beams have a spot of shading on the tip of the bulb. That keeps the light from blinding oncoming drivers. The high beam bulb doesn't have that. So everyone is flashing you all the time, and you won't be able to tell any difference in light pattern when you switch low/high beams. It will always appear to you (and others) that your high beams are on. Signs will glare at you and it becomes very annoying. I highly recommend against doing it. Just order a set of 80w low beams and 100w high beams. The output will be much better, but oncoming drivers won't give you so much hell about it.
Good luck
Dave
Also, go to my website if you are interested in learning how to do headlight mods like running all 4 headlight bulbs with the highs on, or running the driving lamps with the highs on. They are super simple and super cheap mods.

ok, I replaced my low beams with the high beam bulbs. They ******* rock!!!!!!!! I am running 100W Hyperwhites in my low beams and high beams now. The light output is unbelievable! Now shorted out and no fuses blew so its all good. I can't wait to go out and blind some people tonight

Did you do the 4 headlight high beam mod?
You're not really blinding folks until you are blinding them with 400 watts of hyperwhite fury!
