Default Scratched Glass

Well, somehow my car is attracted to flying debris from the highway. Yesterday, traveling from SA to Austin a piece of plastic flewup into the air from a car in front of me (I was at a respectable distance back from him) and came down into my windshield (I am glad it was just plastic). This is the second time this has happened - the first time a piece of iron lodged itself into my front bumper and I had to get the bumper replaced.

Is there any way to buff out the scratches in my windshield (it is on the passenger side and at least 20 small scratches in a 6" X 12" area)?

yeah, hopefully there is something I can use to get it out. It might have been better if the windshield would have broken, would have been easier to get insurance to replace it.
