Default Amp and sub install, removing the coat hangers and sail panel?

I am in the middle of installing an amp and sub and I'm trying to run the wires. I need to remove the sail panel by first removing the coat hanger correct? Can anyone give me tips on how to do this safely? Thanks.

Get an old flathead screwdriver, and bent the tip to as close to a 90* angle as you can. Then stick it in the slot, and pull gently, making sure not to damage it. I didn't do anything like that, and mine is fubar.
