Battery tray problems?
Just bought a new red top Optima battery and it doesnt fit into the stock battery tray on my 02 Camaro. Has anyone had this problem before. What can be done? Also the battery tie down cant be screwed in anymore cuz of the battery size so is there any universal tie downs.
I posted this thread in electronics section as well to try and get some more answers.

You need the special Optima hold down piece. I put a Yellow top in my car a few years ago and they threw in the hold down for free when I bought it. It's rounded so it fits around the middle battery cell and clamps it down properly. I had to bend the AC condensor line away slightly to clear the top of the battery too. I just bent it by hand about a 1/4 inch for clearance, no big deal.

My Optima Red Top came with the special hold down piece as described above - even with that, it is still somewhat loose
I plan on getting one of the billet aluminum Optima battery holders. It will bolt to the stock plastic battery tray, kinda works like a cage around the battery, has it's own holddown, an optional standoff extension to go above the top terminals and give you a full flat surface over the battery (for my custom mirrored battery cover). There is also an optional built in battery trickle charger (much need here in PA while car is in storage).
Jegs sells one similar but the one I am talking about actually comes from a marine parts supplier.
