Default Paint scratches

So, this is my scenario.

My car has a couple spots where the paint is gone (imagine someone with" wide and 4" long)....

How would be the best way to get rid of these?

The paint is "gone"?

I'm sorry but you aren't "getting rid" of that then...its gonna need to be repainted...

Maybe a picture would help.

I know I am not gonna "get rid of it."

Well.... what I am planning on doing this:

primer
paint
wet sand
3 Stage Polish

Is it ok w/o clearcoat? Could I put clearcoat on after wetsand, then wetsand again?

Any ideas?

Should I wetsand before I put on the primer and paint (maybe clearcoat)?

I would clear it ..

Norton makes a nice little touch up kit that comes with sandpaper, compound, etc for small repairs like this ..

i work part time at a body shop and what we would do is
1st: sand the spot down till it is smooth
2nd: prime it then sand the primer with 240 grit then go a little further out with 320 grit. if you have a D/A it will help out.
3rd: sand the whole panel with 800 grit.
4th: we would use sealer but its not really needed
5th: base coat (i wouldnt base the whole panel cuz then it may not match your other panels around it. remember this is new paint and hasnt been faded by the sun) when you base the spot go with like 3 coats (1st coat cover the spot and about about 3 inchs past it all around.) (2nd coat same area and another like inch to 3 inches around 1st coat.) (3rd coat same as 2nd and go another 2inchs or so out) this will help blend the paint so it is not as noticeable. also allow about 5-10 min flash time inbetween coats.
6th: clearcoat the whole panel (this is a must)otherwise you will see exactly where the new clear is an dthe old clear is.(ive seen this and id rather bang my head on a wall)
7th: wet sand with 1500 or 2000 grit sandpaper then buff out with rubbing compount then glaze

hope this helps and if you have any more questions just ask

one more note dont wet sand your base color. it will dull it out and you will see the scratches in it
