Default How do you do this?

I saw that pic and i love how its completely smooth. I hate how the stock gear shifter has those annoying blinds and can sometimes rattle. How do you get the smooth look?

Thats from a 300c. I had the same one in my Mag but changed it recently. You could also add a boot to cover those. And to think that was tried to be passed as a tacky mod....man..... I would sell you min but Im keeping it so i can get it back to stock if I wanted. If you like that **** maybe you can score one in the SRT8OC.com forum or LX forum.

Im bringing this back up because im still interested in doing this. Im not interested in the leather shift boot. I want my shift boot to look like the above picture. Im sick of the blinds because i hate the sound and it looks cheap. How can i get my boot to look like that??

The "slide" your referring too is the old 93-95 center console. go to carddomain and check out one in that year range and you'll see what i'm talking about.

i haven't worked on one that old in years so i don't want say definetly yes or no. that being said...... if i remember correctly i had the console out of my 94 a few times and the "slide" itself should be interchangeable.

1. remove the shifter **** first by pulling the clip out of the slit in the front of the shifter handle. A scribe and needle nose pliers work good.

2. open the center console and remove the screws that hold the "top" part of the console down. will be under the change holder on your 01 t/a.

3.lift the "top" up in the rear and you will feel that it is still secured in the front. my memory is foggy but i think it's only secured by clips. Take a look under there anyway before you rip it out!

4. once the top is loose you will see where the light for the gear indicator is screwed in. 1/4 turn and pop it out.

5. if you have any switches attached to the top unplug them also. DUH

6. once every thing is unsecured it should lift off right over your shifter.

7. beer

8. the slide will be inside a white housing that has 2? screws holding the whole assy in. remove them and the assy will come off of the top.

9. flip it over and figure out how to get it apart. sorry my memory fails me here.

I hope that helps, i had mine apart often because the slide would get bunched up and bent if you ever spilled anything sticky like soda in there. IMO i like the blinds better because they are built stronger/thicker than the slide type, but mine don't rattle either. the slide is just a thing peice of plastic.

keep in mind it was about 10 years ago when i last did this so you may have to tweak some of the directions!

good luck and keep us posted with some pics!
