Engine bay bolt/nut/washer replacement & using correct grade?
I have been putting a hardware appearance kit together for my engine bay. A problem I have run into is matching the class/grade of the hardware that is being replaced. I am doing ok using ARP bolts for the engine. All the stock engine bolts are Class 10.9 and the ARP bolts are rated higher than this. The only other Class 10.9 stuff I am replacing is strut tower bolts and nuts. I have no idea where to get high strength nuts or washers in a polished stainless or chrome plated finish. Anyone have any ideas?
Also, most other nuts, bolts, and washers I am replacing appear to be Class 9.8. The only polished stainless or chrome plated hardware I can find, excluding ARP bolts, is Class 5.8. I am a little leery of using Class 5.8 hardware on anything holding the hood in place. There is a significant difference between Class 5.8 and Class 9.8. What do you think?
One last question, how shiny are the stainless ARP bolts?
