Default Question for my girls Mustang

My girl has a 2004 Mustang Mach-1 auto. Started the car today and idled at 3-3,500 rpm. She then drove it home from work and the car wouldnt come outta first gear. When she puts it in park the idle goes right back up to 3k rpm.
ANy thoughts?? or anything i can check?? ANy help would be great..

With the high idle I would suspect that you might have a vacuum leak. I would take a look under the hood with it running and if so it should be pretty obvious. It is possible that the trans might have been in a limp mode condition. Any codes?

No engine lights or anything. I was just out there in is seems to bang into drive and back into park. Is there no trans fluid dipsticks on these damn cars!?

There should be a stick on the passenger side of the engine bay. The hard apply in drive is because the idle is so high. Kinda like doing a neutral drop.

Failed to mention that saturday night she drove through some deep water. She drove slowly but water was a good 1ft or so.
Looked in her manual and says that driving through deep water could allow water through the transmission vent tube. Think water may have gotten in there and burned out a trans. sensor?? Checked her trans fluid and it did seem possibly watered down.
Friend of a friend said her car is in a limp/ fail safe mode where it wont allow the car to keep driving normally

Why would you drive through 1 foot deep water in a Mach 1?
