I had to cut a 1.5" x 1.5" square for the adapter harness to fit on the driver's side. I cut one on the passenger's side for the rear tranny cooler line as well. Turns out it would've fit without the passenger's side cut. Some people say it won't fit without both though. It doesn't affect the flooring of the car at all. It's well worth it to fit the 80 in.
What are your concerns about modifying the body to fit the tranny?

I have done a little looking, and have seen it done many ways, just wondering if it is unavoidable to mod the body is all.
As far as concernes, there are none, just making sure that I know what is all involved, and I tend to shy from body work. It's not really my thing.

Get an air powered cutter, you will need to cut out a square for the driver side tranny electrical connector. I did that and pounded with hammer. With my tranny line setup i had to cut a little piece out on the passenger side. No big deal. well worth it!
