My dad has rebuilt 4l60e's for years now and he said he would rebuild mine at the time. the thing is do i need to do alot of beefing up on the trans? or should i just intsall a shift kit? also if im beefing up the internals where should i get the parts and what will i need

I would install the Beast sun shell, chromoly pump rings, later model 3-4 clutch pack setup with Hi-Energy frictions/thick steels for 7 count, Alto Wide Red band, new reverse input drum, Transgo Reprogramming kit, Vette servo, new upgraded boost valves, and otherwise a good solid rebuild with new electronics.

That would be getting you most of the critical upgrades to make it live. If your Dad is good at building them he'll know what to watch for as far as parts inspection and good assembly practices.
