Default 4l80 6 clutch direct

I know you have to use .077 steels from the forward drum to get 6 clutches in the direct drum, but I have to remove the dished steel plate to get the proper clearences. Is this okay?

Yes that is fine, In the 80e I preferr on the direct clutch to either leave them out or use the th400 waved plate instead depending on what i need for clearance in the direct clutch.
I also generally replace the dished plate in the forward clutch in favor of the waved th400 plate.

I do the same thing....replacing the 80e wave plates for the 400s.
