Default 4x4 4L60E/65E into a LS1 Fbody.

Picked up a 4L65E with Borg Warner 4484 transfer case out of a Vmax Silverado 4x4. I want to install this trans into a LS1 Fbody. I figured all that I would need to do was unbolt the transfer case and swap on the Fbody tail shaft housing, but someone mentioned that the output/input shaft (whatever the driveshaft connects to) is shorter in a 4x4 trans and would need to be swapped for a Fbody one. Is this true? Your help is greatly appreciated, thank.

Yes you will have to partially tear down the trans and swap the tail shaft

Any ball park guess as to what that would cost to have done including parts?

I've swapped 4L60E pumps before, but never swapped output shafts... Any writeups around?

I kinda did on another forum but unfortunately, you must be a paying member to see the pictures. If you can swap pumps and install shift kits, you can swap output shafts. You may or may not have to remove the band anchor to pull the band. But you need to remove the valve body to reinstall it. You may get away without doing it but it makes life easier. Remove pump, 2-4 servo, valve body, band anchor. Pull input drum and band should come with it. Remove sun gear and underneath you'll find the snap ring holding the output shaft in. Support the output shaft when you remove it or it may fall out. Assuming the trans is standing on its end. The factory used glue during assembly so it may need some tugging. This was a very vague set of instructions but It'll get you started atleast. If pics help I can post them.
