Default New torque converter, is this normal?

Hi all,

I just purchased a TC from a member (great transaction, A+) and it arrived today. It's a vig 3600 new in the box from vig (he bought it and sold it right to me) (as far as i can tell).

When I opened it up and took it from the box, i shook it side to side and it rattles, as if theres a metal disc (not sure of the nmes of the TC internals) rattling about (only if i give it a kethup bottle sort of shake, if that makes sense). It's more of a metallic clunk than a rattle, as if something is not connected or some such.

Is that normal? The stock replacement TC I bought for my dodge ram 1500 didn't sound like that, but it also wasn't a "performance" one like this.

Just wondering if that sounds normal. Thank you.

the center internals of the converter are held in place by the pump stator and input shaft. Not installed on a trans and dry of fluid they will rattle

Awesome, thank you.

It is dry, I was hoping that was the issue. Just didn't want to waste all that time installing it to have it explode.
