Shift kits
Hi all , I've got just over 90k on my car and I would like to get a little firmer shifts out of the tranny by installing a shift kit and I know they can help add some life to it too.
can you guys suggest a kit and(or) parts to replace for my Formy that don't require dropping the trans to install.
Thanks in advance for your help and Ideas.
Bill

If you wanted to install the ENTIRE kit, you would have to drop the trans. They include a spring kit that goes into the drum and requires the pump to come out. Transgo told me I didn't need to install this part of the kit, but to keep shift points under 6K, as this part of the kit is designed to prevent an internal leak caused by centrifugal force when the trans spins faster than that.
Other than that, it is removal of the valve body, replacing valves and springs, adding shims/washers to the 2nd servo and accumulator, and drilling out the separator plate. Transgo has a video of this install on their website, but it does not cover everything in the kit. The instructions are very clear, but I would recommend that you have some trans experience before tackling this.
Also, shift firmness on the ls1 cars is controlled by the PCM through torque management which can be adjusted through tuning. I put this kit in my car along with a Yank SS3600 converter and felt the shifts were about the same. We'll see once I get it tuned and have some of the torque management taken out.

Transgo HD2, Thanks Blownvert.
SMS Thanks to you for your input too and those that chimed in on the transgo idea.
I kinda remember reading something about a vett servo or something too any thoughts on that?
as for tuning the shift points, is that something that can be done with a predator or hypertech or other handheld? I do not have access to LS1 edit etc or the extra cash for custom tunes at the moment, not that I have a handheld either but just asking?
Thanks again everyone for your input and suggestions.
