Default Shifter stuck!

So i just installed headers 2 days ago and its ran great both days no problems at all, then today i had to drive out to help a friend change a tire on the highway and i notice that the button on the T-handle was getting stiff and it continued to get harder to push in. So when i got to my apt. about 15mins later i coudnt even get it into Reverse or Park, so its stuck in N and D. I took the handel off and tryed it without that but i white plastic rod is just a stiff and not moving at all. Any suggestions? im lose here im not to knowledgeable on transmissions but i was shifting just fine and running great so it really caught me off guard.
Thanks

Make sure the top part of the shifter is securely in its place, all the way down.
Mine used to do the same thing until i found out that the leather **** wasnt all the way down since its missing the little staple clamp.
Hope this helps.
