Default tranny help for 2900lb rx7 please

i have a 1990 rx7 that has a 8.8irs with 3.27. my motor when finished will be a tsp 2.5 5.3 head ,ls6 with ls6 intake and im working on cam selection now im hoping for 400ish rwhp until i can get the rest of the parts to put a procharger unit on.

i can't decide on transmissions since i changed the rear i know i don't need a od tranny but should i still get one? would a built th400 or th350 be all i need? the car is going to be more of a plaything then serious drag race. wanna beable to drive with the wife AND bust some *** haha .

any help you guys can offer would be great thanks.

The car is pretty light so a 4l60e would probably be fine for you if you want an OD transmission. The 80e would be a stronger transmission for an OD unit but it is larger than the 60 so you would have to see if it would fit. Both the th400 or th350 would work fine but then again we are talking about a three speed. Vince

thank you vince for the response. i have been debating a 60e for awhile but didn't want to spend a couple grand and have it break when i up the hp.the th400 and 350 seem to easily be able to handle the power from what i have seen but i was unsure about how it would act in a car that i want to drive around town ..not daily but just when i feel like going for a ride haha. do you think it would turn to high a rpm at 65-70 mph for street use? also do you think i would have any real problem with a 60 if i decided to run nos or run a s/c?
