Default transmission perform button

my 94 TA has a transmission perform button. Other than lighting up, I really haven't noticed much of a difference with it. What's it supposed to do? sorry if it's a stupid question.

I wonder why GM dropped that for 96? Maybe because of emissions or something to do with OBD2? my car has it and its kind of a cool feature. I almost wish it came on by default and i had to press the button to turn it off since i pretty much turn it on all the time when i drive the car.

alright, cool. I'll have to actually open the car up and see that difference. I was just curious what was actually happening when it was pushed. Thanks Guys!
