Stock tranny in a 1985 Chevy truck . . .
So what came stock in a 1985 1/2 ton Chevy 2wd truck? its a reg cab/short box/305, stock as a rock with 27k miles except the exhaust, its been dualed out.
I was under the impression that Chevy started putting the 700R4 in their trucks in 1981, but this truck just has D 2 1 on the column mounted shifter. So is it a TH350, TH400, or 700R4??? I've heard that the first couple of years the 700R4 was a total pos, but we all know the TH350 and 400 are awesome trannies.
I plan to drive this truck daily, the body is extra minty with ZERO rust, very clean undercarrige, mint interior, and just a so-so repaint on the two tone black/silver paint. Still a sharp truck with COLD A/C that runs awesome, kind of feels like my Caddy with a bed on the back of it. I'd prefer the 700R4 for better gas mileage, but then again I know the th350 would be more durable.

Usually a long tail th350c. Thats a th350 with a lock up torque converter.
The 700 will bolt right in place, the crossmember needs to be moved back, IIRC the bolt holes are already in the frame. If not they can easily be drilled.
