Default 4L60e Trans Rebuild

Over this past summer my trans has slowly gotten worse from shifting from 2-3. I knew the day was coming as these transmissions are notorious for this. It started out that I would hit my rev limiter almost instantly when I got up in the higher rpms in second on a 100 shot. Now even on motor instead of shifting it just goes straight to my rev limiter from 2-3 at wot. Under normal driving conditions everything works fine. I have changed shift points, line pressure etc. So im assuming my transmission needs an upgrade. I can’t afford to buy a whole new transmission so I would like have this one rebuilt. I have a ’97 C5 A4 that makes 400 rwhp/365 rwtq on motor and I want to spray up to about a 150 rwhp shot. The car sees the track about 2-3 times a year and the occasional street race other than that I drive it to work. I have a Yank 3600 stall converter and the transmission has a Transgo HD-2 shift kit already installed, other than that all drivetrain parts are stock. I run 285 Nitto 555r’s on stock wheels and don’t plan on using slicks at the track any time soon.

What transmission components should I upgrade to handle at least 600 rwhp?

Thanks for the help.

29 element sprags
five gear rear planetary
alto red clutches with 8 clutch 3-4 stack
alto red wide band
beast sunshell, or I think GM has an upgraded sunshell that's pretty good
you probably already have the corvette servos (unless they hadn't started them in your year model)
13 vane pump
I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but that's a start

Several companies, including a couple of sponsors here have really good rebuild kits available.

Borg warner makes a 29 element dual cage sprag, I haven't heard of a 39 element sprag.

Make sure to get the HD pump slide spring and the sonnax boost valves, this will keep pressures comsistent at 6,000+ rpms..

Yeah, 29 element sprag. Wrong button, fixed it. I never knew there were upgraded boost valves.

There are many different ways to build the 4l60e, but for drag racing make sure to find a builder who does more then just install a beast shell and 5 pinion planets......
