Default shudder at 1500 rpm

i have an odd issue with my 98 trans am ls1. When the tranny shifts into a gear under light throttle 2000-2200 rpm shift, it will shift drop down to 1500 rpm and i get a shudder feeling, i can press the gas lightly and vehicle speed will increase but rpms stay at 1500. then if i give it half throttle it will jump up and function properly. trans is not slipping or shifting hard. just curious as to what this may be. just had trans and rear diff fluid changed (was doing this before change)

a torque convertor with 'lockup' has a clutch that engages to provide a direct drive between engine and transmission for the purpose of economy. the lockup clutch is programmed to engage upon low torque demand,as in cruise control on the freeways. when engaged and you apply throttle to the point where the computor senses a 'higher torque demand' to more briskly accelerate the vehicle, the lockup clutch disengages and normal torque convertor operation is put in play.
