Car is stuck in park.

Car is stuck in park. Well last year when i took my car out the button was stuck on and the shifter would move freely out of park, so i took the handle off and moved the plastic piece in the shaft up and down with some wd 40 and freed it up, this year it did the same thing and i went to do it again but while i was moving it up and down it got stuck up, now i cant get it to move at all and my car is in park, anyone had this happen or have any ideas whats jamming it ? thanks

your best bet would be to just get a different shifter imo cause possibility of that one doing it again and again are inevitable. Check the for sale parts area just my 2 cents. sounds like the rod inside the casing is fucked. Also check the linkage to make sure everything is ok as well hope this helps
