Default Broken Converter Bolt...Frick me

Hey whats up i got a Vigilante 3600 That i bought from a guy on here (good lookin) for 300 bucks...but with a catch (which i knew about) one of the bolts is broke off in one of the holes probably bout a 1/4-5/16inches in the bottom of the blind hole...now i thought about easy outing or drilling the bolt out them throwin a helicoil in there (its what they do in airline industry right?). My only problem with that is the fact that the helicoil's tap doesnt have full threads at the bottom of the tap because its tapered like taps usually are...then how the hellam i supposed to thread that beast? The only thing i can think is to run the tap down to where the blind hole bottoms out then take it out and cut the tapered part of it off and then run it down the whole way...Anybody got any better suggestions because i am all ears because this whole procedure seems like it can be avoided by doing another way????? Anybody ever had this happen?? Thanks

I agree with what you are saying here and I to have had to grind down the end of a tap to do just what you have said. I would try to first try to remove it. If your good and bolt was not cross threaded, you might not need to worry about the coil. Otherwise you know what you will have to do. Vince

It is called a bottoming tap, you can buy them. Or simply grind the end down. But like Vince said, the threads might still be ok. Make sure you use some 10.9 grade metric bolts, so hopefully it won't happen again.
