I bought the wrong trans, can I make it work
I have a 2000 Silverado with a 4L60e that's about to go out. The pan was full of large steel metal flakes, enough to clog the filter. I cleaned out the pan, replaced the filter and fluid. It's still running but not for long.
I picked up a used trans from a craigslist ad out of a 1998 Tahoe. I thought at the time if it had a separate bell housing, it was for the new style engines like my 5.3L. Turns out this is from a Gen-1 5.7L. I found that I can use GM part 12621399 to adapt this trans to the 5.3L engine, so bolting it in is not a problem now.
However, I was told by a guy at Chevy that the electronics are different. Is that true? Everything I've read in the forums and elsewhere claim it's the same as the 2000 4L60e, except for the bell housing, converter and input shaft.
If I use the adapter kit to install this trans, will it run correctly with the Silverado's transmission controller?
Thanks,
-Mike

If you have the same electrical plugs the electronics should be the same. The main differences for the 4l60e is the valve body design I believe that after 95 and before 04 they all should have the same.
