4l80 fitment issue
Hello. I'm trying to bolt up my 4l80 to my lq4 and when I try to tighten the bellhsousing bolts down I get it about 1/2 inch away from the block before the converter hits up against the flywheel to the point where I can't spin the converter anymore. I was told the lq4 is from 2006 and 4l80 is from 1999. If someone can help me that would be great. I'll post some pics. Oh and its an edge converter.

do you need the spacer and proper flexplate, or do you have the spacer, bolts and flexplate that came with your tranny?
did the original car have a 4l80 or the 4l60, if the 4l60 yo u need the proper bolts and spacer, etc
gm part numbers:
Flywheel #12621399 (used to be 12551367)
Crank Spacer #12563532
Longer Bolts #19257940 (need 6 of these)

hopefully someone else that knows for sure about just using the spacer chimes in, cause to be safe, for my 700r, i ordered all the parts... (through gmpartsdirect was cheaper than dealer), the 700 uses the same parts as would be required to put a 4l80

Thanks everyone for your help. Hey slow67 do you have any suggestions on getting my converter seated all the way. I spin it and push on it at the same time and feels like the input notches slide into place. How can I tell if its seated all the way?

I got a better look at your picture of the case. I hope you don't plan to run that transmission...
You are missing one of the locating dowels. The transmission is centered and indexed to the engine by those dowels, without that being there, the trans will never be perfectly aligned to the engine and you WILL see pump and converter failure.
How long it takes depends on how lucky you are with the alignment but again this is a critical alignment. I'm sure your converter guy wouldn't be too happy to know this.
It could cost you some main bearings as well.

The Dowel on that side is in the block. If you get a close look at the pics you can see that the chunk missing is right above the dowel hole. Dowel hole still good. Thanks for the concern though.

I wound up taking out the trans, standing it up on the tailshaft (put something down like a few crumpled up towels and stand the tailshaft up on that - you're going to lose some fluid) and work the converter back and forth. You should get 3 separate "clicks" before it is totally seated. The last "click" is the toughest one to get.
