Early 4l60e behind 6.0 truck engine
Ive got a sbe (so stock crank) 6.0 truck motor that i plan on putting a 97-prior 4l60e behind. I have this flexplate already http://www.texas-speed.com/p-2500-tc...flexplate.aspx. Just wondering what if anything else i will need and if i can run a regular what would be an LT or sbc style converter with it. Thanks for the help!

Since no one else has answered, let me give it a try, but I'm no expert.
First, as I understand it, the LS crank has a different size or depth hole in it for centering the torque converter. Therefore, you need an LS specific converter. (There might be some adapters available, but that might be asking for trouble. Actually I think the LS hole is smaller and a SBC converter would never fit. No sure of that though.)
I was just reading my ATSF Update Handbook for the 4L60E tonight (I have a unusual sense of "fun" reading). It points out that beginning in 2001, the 4L60E (EHD model) was upgraded with a stronger Sun Shell, reaction carrier shaft and a new thrust bearing to handle the additional power of 6.0 liter engines. Since the 4L60E Sun Shell is notorious weak (probably in pre 2001 units), you might want to reconsider if you really want to put a older stock 4L60E behind. I know that I wouldn't. Keep in mind that if you blow the trans, the metal debris will damage the torque converter and clog up the trans cooler; you will be out a lot of money even if your old trans is free.
