Torque converter going out ?
Hi guys I have been have some transmission issues lately. It stared when I drove about 45 miles on the highway then got off the highway when I got off the highway and came to a stop and went to set off again the car shifted extremely hard in every gear change. After getting it home it threw a SES code so I took it to a shop and they said it was an 1870 code which is a transmission slippage issue. The shop said it would be the torque converter or something with the valve body.
So i guess what I am asking is if any of you guys had this issue ? I have been babying my car until the shop can get it in and the SES light will go off and come back on every once and a while.
If its the torque converter would it be worth putting like a 2500 stall converter in it ? My car is a stock 1997 Camaro 3.8 I don't race the car I just like to have fun with it.
Any comments are appreciated thank you.

An 1870 could be a couple of issues 1.Torque converter 2.stator bushings 3.sealing rings on the input shaft 4.lock up solenoid 5.pwm solenoid 6.afl valve is worn in valve body 7.tcc regulator valve is worn also in valve body. The correct way to fix is to pull the trans and have it rebuilt to check all of these items. the most common problems are 1,2,6,7.Sonnax has all the parts to fix the v/b everything else should be replaced on a normal rebuild.
