Those with A4 on stock stall/tune come inside

try stabbing the throttle quickly then backing off a little to where you want it instead of rolling into it. if that helps then you likely have an internal leak so pressure is lower than expected.
stabbing it should atleast unlock the converter to get the rpm's up a little which will help.
my car is a 2.73 A4 but i'm tuned and i can get it to drop to 3rd at 70mph with very little throttle IF i stab it first.

What Cool28 said.
Look at the 4->3 part throttle downshift table (see attached): at 71 mph the throttle must be pushed past 68.8% to initiate the downshift.

That perfectly explains it, great post. I'm glad I started this thread. Why is it like that? Maybe due to the torque these cars have I suppose?

same a4 problems
Question.
The transmission in my car shifts completely normal when cruising around town, everything feels great with it. However, something that kind of makes me scratch my head is when I'm on the highway. For example, if I'm cruising at 70 and I need to pass someone up, but I'm not trying to pass the person at WOT, is it normal for the car not to kickdown to a higher gear? I mean, I will be accelerating past someone and the speed is increasing pretty quickly, but I'll be definitely past half throttle and the car is still lugging along in 4th gear. It won't kickdown until I basically floor it.
Does anyone else's transmission do this? I have never driven an auto car that behaved the way this car does on the highway.
Thanks in advance. Just kind of wondering if this isn't some type of problem.

next ill spend the money on the ws6 6 speed with a bare minimum 12 bolt personally dont see droping alot of money in an auto
G/F is reason for auto! never again
i tried to teach her in my old '99 maxima but shes too short, showed her in my single cab truck better improvements for her, but a average texan cant drive for s*** at least the part im in (HOUSTON)
sorry im still new to forums and autos but i feel m6 is the only way to go if you are experienced with stick shift

My trans am would do a slight kick down at a little half throttle at 60 plus.... go to the floor with it and its a whole nother animal. That was on stock stall / tune. Will be picking it up from Gilbert over at Ace Transmission this week with a build / 3200 stall so will be curious how it will act.
