Question TH350 failing, but still shifting fine without slippage

The TH350 in my coupe started cooking fluid a couple months back....

Turns out the cooler built into the radiator was clogged, so I picked up a new remote mount cooler (w/fan) and installed it between the frame rails.

The fluid runs MUCH cooler than ever before, but even after changing the filter and flushing all the old fluid out, it still gets dark and gritty after a few hundred miles of driving

I've replaced the filter and flushed the fluid twice since the cooler install and it still gets dark and gritty after a few cruise outings

Thing is, the old fluid was Type-F and I replaced it with Dexron.

Local parts store only had 3 quarts of Type-F and I wanted to flush everything out, so I just went with a few gallon jugs of Dex (which I've been using ever since)

Now, the tranny shifts just fine with no issues at all and will smoke the tires in 2nd and 3rd with ease, but I'm about to do another filter change and flush for the 4th time in the last few weeks

Any ideas as to what might be failing?
