id start by checking condition and fluid level but it might need internals repairs.

I would take off the oilpan and look for dirt in the oilfilter to start with.
It might be full of it, and therefore not shifting.

My old tranny started the same way.

the oil pan ? or the trans fluid pan and filter ? oil and filter change was done a month ago, and is 400 mile till its due again, also does anyone know what all transmissions will bolt up with the ls1 and fit in the tunnel without having to cut it down, and if the tail housing needs to be changed, if i have to change trans i would like to know diff options

The oilpan and oilfilter on the transmission, yes... Not on the actual engine
