Default adjusting shift extension

With a bigger stall, is shift extension set during manufacturing or something the tuner can adjust?
It seems that a lot may be gained in this area if it can be tinkered with by the tuner. I found a thread on here before where it was being discussed but can't find it now.
Could a 3,600 stall be tricked into acting like a 5,000 stall or bigger after each shift and what would be the downside?
Sorry if these are stupid questions. Just trying to learn and apply.
Thanks!

Shift extension is generally a Characteristic of the converter combo. You might be able to manipulate the rpm drop or lack there of by adjusting the rpm the shifts are commanded. Like shifting before the powerband or over shooting it, but don't expect much improvement in performance unless you were shifting way early from the start.

Its set when the converter is manufactured. It cannot be directly changed.
