Trans blown when ASR light goes off?
I have a friend with a 2000 Z28 and hes having a problem with his transmission. For some reason, the ASR light(Traction control) on the switch will go out, and within 2 weeks, the trans will self destruct. He has had it rebuilt 2 times by the dealer, and there was no reason for the cause. They said that the second gear was glazed over and worn out. Does this have anything to do with the light going out? Or, does the light tell you the trans is blowing up? The car is basically stock with a K&N filter. Any help?

I'm having the same damn problem with my car! Although, I don't use it as a daily driver. I'm hoping I won't be having any problems with the trans. I only give it a little bit of a test drive every now and then on backroads until I get the R-title which should be soon... I know of one other guy that has the same problem with his switch. No one knows what's going on with them, I guess. Everytime I turn my car on, the light for the switch blinks twice, then goes out and stays out even when I push on the button. Is this becoming an epidemic for the 2000's??? Post this thread in PCM and diagnostics too to see if anybody responds. If more of us report the problem, we might be able to get more help with it.

hahaha, sssshh don't jinx yourself. I think I may have found the problem out. Someone in the internal engine section of the boards asked if I had a ported MAF and I do have the POS Granatelli. I'm gonna swap it back w/ the stock one and see if that works. PewterY2K, you don't by any chance have a ported or aftermarket MAF do you? Don't see one in the sig; j/w.

I too had that problem once after making some changes with edit to the tranny (I have a 2000). Couldn't get it to go away unless I flashed the PCM back to an older file. I have ported MAF ends as well, but I'm running a vacuum modulter so the MAF ends won't matter..
