Default Are all 4l60e trans' the same?

I am thinking about going with a 60e style trans so I can cruise at lower rpm's than the 350 I currently have.
I have a 5.7 and was wondering if they are all the same from a 2 wheel drive and 4x4 or are their differences between them.
Should I be looking for something in particular (model year/vehicle) thanks for the help guys.
Sorry for all the dumb trans questions lately, just new to the ls world

You want a '98 - '06 for V8 (LS) engine which have a 300mm input shaft. These will have a bolt hole in the (removable) bell housing in the 12 O'Clock position. A '03 - '06 would be preferred as GM strengthened them a bit for LS2 engines.
