I bought this trans on craigslist from a local off road buggy/sand car fabrication shop. I was told it was a 2001 4l60e from a 2wd Silverado. i looked up some of the number of the trans and it looks like its from a V8 but the case dosnt say 4l60e on the side. need to know if i can make this trans work behind my 5.3 swap.
bell housing has the 12 o'clock bolt hole and this part number - 24206952, which translates to a 4.8/5.3/6.0 bell on google.
main case is stamped - 24207965
it has a 6 bolt tail shaft, 13 pin connector on the side, a PWM front pump, and a double splined input shaft with an O ring in the center.
also the torque converter that came with it lines up perfectly with the holes on my dished 5.3 flex plate.
yes i know one tab is broken...

There is NO way to tell a 4L60E from a 4L65E without a major disassembly of the internals. However, IIRC, 4L65E were not introduced until late 2002.
It looks like to you have a 4L60E made for LS engines. Therefore, it will take a standard LS-style converter and bolt right up to "most" LS engine. Some LS truck engines have the "long" crank which causes complexities (sorry don't know the details).
The vast majority of LS engines have the short/standard crank (flat flexplate which is even with the rear of the block). These will bolt right up to this trans.

Sounds good. I was just wondering why the case wasn't stamped 4L60 on the side.
I have both style flexplates at home. I had a th400 bolted up before I bought this trans. I picked up a flat flexplate, spacer and bolts a while ago. My 5.3 came with a curved flexplate.
