Default Tranny guru's. I have a question???

Wondering how bad or if I am hurting my auto 4l60e tranny when I manually shift the gears when racing from a roll?

Only mods don't to my knowledge is a 3800 stall

I do plan on putting a shift kit but my cousin has suggested an HD3 kit or black box due to my manually shifting on the weekends, what do you think?

Explain manually shifting? In some cases it is beneficial. In L or 1st, it engages a low roller sprag (whatever the hell that is) which supports something-or-other and makes your trans super strong! I rarely if EVER go WOT without manually downshifting first....the reason? The trans can shift before throttle is applied giving the clutches an easier time fully engaging for less wear and tear. So say I'm riding down the road in OD, 45mph, rpms are at 1600. If I want to go full throttle I will manually pull the shifter down to 2nd, the rpms raise to 4kish, then when I'm ready I go WOT. The point is you aren't shifting under load. Once I go WOT I go up to Drive which allows the trans to auto shift. Also, shifts take longer in D vs. OD? Why? Some other fluid path is getting fluid in D and takes a split second longer to shift. Ask a tranny guru for more info on that. If you move your shifter, understand you aren't actually shifting, you are commanding the computer to shift. It is extremely delayed and not very precise which is why I never do it.

No you are not hurting your trans by manual shifting.
