Default Kickdown cable not moving?

Picked up a 93 firebird a couple weeks ago and discovered a few days after driving it that a prior owner had broke the kickdown cable clip and used some wire to rig everything together. So I picked up a replacement clip that slips on but it appears it needs some tension on the cable to hold it on. My cable is too loose by about 1/4" and after messing around with it a bit it looks like maybe it's stuck, the cable doesn't move in or out. Not very familiar with this setup so I was hoping for some advice.

If the transmission in your firebird is a cable controlled overdrive ; its best to replace the cable. The cable: ie: throttle valve cable controls the transmissions pressures and shift timing. If the cable doesn't move its probably kinked. That's why the previous clip broke.
