I have had some bad luck here lately. A local guy built my tranny and he builds a lot of them for a lot of local racers. Car makes almost 900rwhp.
I have everything that I could get cryoed. Billet fwd clutch hub, 300mm shaft and cast clutch drum, red clutches. So I have burned up 3rd gear.

First question. My shifter is a B&M ratchet. When I go into reverse it's like I have a half click from park and then another full click to get reverse to engage. Could this cause my 3rd gear to burn up?

Is there anything else I need to modify to make 3rd gear last?

There is more distant from park to reverse with the th400. My B&M ratchet and th400 takes two full shifts back from park to engage reverse.

If I needed a th400 done Id call Jakes performance personally.

Ok that's good to hear. I'm going to give my guy another shot and if not I may be looking elsewhere. Ready to see what this car can do.

Do you know if the directs ar dual fed? I think the same 4l80 technique works on a th400. Also adding a friction to the directs.

Yup.

Adding an extra clutch and friction for 6-count clutch pack in the directs is always recommended. There's a good chance you'll need to do a minor amount of machining on the piston for a TH400 direct drum though, the snap ring groove is lower on the 400 drums than the 80Es.

I passed jakes info on to my builder. He's already made his "own" valve body using a technique that seems to work bit I'm not sure if it'd work on a car that does see street duty.

By the way it's worth mentioning that I would swap out the Alto Reds for Hi Energies, personally.
