different versions of 4l60e
So my transmission died on me on the way back from school today I was lucky to get home. Talked to my mechanic and I need a rebuild from a transmission shop or I have to buy a new or rebuilt one and he will put it in for me. So my question is, is there a performance 4l60e that they used on 98-02 trans ams or will one from a truck like a silverado of that time work too? Thinking of upgrading my gears while im at it too. 3.73s decent on gas?

All 4L60E units from 98~02 in the Firebirds & Camaros were the same.
Sometimes truck units have more clutch plates depending on the GVW of the truck. A truck unit might work but make sure it's a 2WD unit and the bellhousing matches.
Units from LT1 cars changed like every two years to keep up with PCM changes.

If your worried about more performance you should request a specific rebuild kit to your mechanic. More frictions, upgrade your sun shell, maybe some after market accumulators, etc. you can build your tranny to stand up to more power. While your in there grab a shift kit, why not? have you thought about what your going to get for a torque converter? you might consider a tranny cooler to keep that newly rebuilt shifting machine running smooooth. Is your car a daily driver or toy?
