First time 4l60e rebuild, which kit fits my application?
Hey gang,
Looking to rebuild my first transmission. Considered going the 4l80 swap but it seems the cost for the transmission and the swap will be over $3,000. Want to get a 4l60e from the junkyard and rebuild it before mine goes out (99 T/A is my daily).
Looking at these kits:
http://www.trutechtrans.com/4L60E-AR...II-Basket.html
http://www.trutechtrans.com/4L60E-RB...-I-Basket.html
and another I found
http://www.monstertransmission.com/4...l#.VKywoHtiD-R
Both claim to be good up to 550 horses, but I'm wondering if that's flywheel or to the wheels. So far I only have 1 & 7/8 TSP LT's, a lid, and I'll grab a LS6 Intake and a tune after I do the transmission. If I can save a few hundred, and gain some valuable experience, I think the home rebuild will be worth it.
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Avoid anything from monsterstransmission. Just look up their BBB complaints.
I have often recommended TruTechTrans and everyone that has gone there has been very happy.
The cheaper kit from TruTechTrans would be my choice as I avoid Alto Red Eagle. I know that Jeff (owner) prefers Raybestors and their GPZ clutches, and suspect he only sells Alto because people explicitly ask for them. (May have been the best 10 years ago, but no longer).
Better is to just call Jeff TruTechTrans and have him put a custom kit together to meet your needs.
Sponsor NorthTexasConverter is getting into the biz of selling rebuild kits now. Having spoken to them, they are very up to date with the latest parts, e.g. from Sonnax, and should be able to put a good kit together for you too. And likely a bit cheaper than TruTechTrans.
