why not the 200-4R instead of the pop TH400?
why dont people convert to 200-4R?
i read they can handle mad horsepower with minimal $,
and are lighter and more efficient than the horrible TH400
a big plus, theyve got four gears.
so whats wrong with the 200-4R?

I can only tell you what I have "heard" and was told by some of the racers here.
The 200 is not as strong as the 400. Most of the racers don't want 4 gears, only 3 to worry about.
My SS has only 412 rwph, 377 rwtq on the engine. I was going to go with the 350, BUT I intend on shooting at least 150 shot of nitrous. On 100 shot, the hp went to 512 and tq to 568. On a 150 shot, we are looking at mid-500 hp and 600+ rwtq. The 350 MAY hold it, but the 400 WILL. For $200-300 more why settle for 2nd best.

Basically there are 2 reasons most racers don't use a 200R4. 1st is the cost difference, a built 200R4 is really expensive somewhere in the neighborhood of $4,500.00 where a built TH-400 is only $1,200.00 to $1,500.00 with a pro trans brake. 2nd, most racers don't need or want a 4 speed auto with overdrive, 2 or 3 gears is all you need when your haulin azz. A Power Glide is prefered if you have a light enough car.

Right around 3000 LBS, the most I'd probably go with a PG is 3100 LBS including driver. I'm sure others have gone heavier but just to be on the safe side 3100 LBS.

the thing with a Pglide is that it doesnt have very low gears so to make the most of it you need alot of engine torque and a pretty broad powerband or it will slow you down. bigblocks are the perfect candidates for glides as long as the rest of the car isnt too heavy.
