Hi guys , I just swapped a lq9 in a 1988 bmw vert ,I started it for the first time and runs good but my problem is that the trans isn't going into any gear it's like it's in neutral in every gear , checked the pump and there's plenty of pressure ,brand new 3400 stall the spins freely , I'm thinking that the place I had do the harness and tune might have tuned for a manual .. any feed back will help

Thanks guys

Even with the trans connector unplugged, you will get 3rd gear.
No electrical connections are needed for Reverse; do you have Reverse?
Do you have Park? (Checking that driveshaft and yoke are correct.)

If you have Park, but no Reverse, then either converter not bolted up, completely wrong converter, defective pump or broken input shaft or input drum.

Thanks for the response, park works . Rear tires lock in park but no other gears works ,I took a cooler line off started it and about two quarts came out in a matter of seconds . Torque converter is bolted . I took the bolts out and spun the converter , it spins freely and was clicked in so I'm guessing a bad converter .. it is brand new but after market so looks like trans has to come out and it's super tight in this little car .. this is Gona suck

I'm now suspecting the wrong type of converter - any chance a 298mm converter for pre '98 4L60E was installed instead of a 300mm converter?
Do you have a model number for the converter?
