Default Replacing Transmission

My transmission on my 2000 trans am just gave out. I was wondering if there were any vehicles i could pull a trans out of and it run? If there are is the anything ill need to modify of replace to make it run?

Although the Newb Forum was a sensible place for this post, I'm moving it to the auto trans forum where you'll be sure to get the answer you're looking for.

I'll get you started .... The 5.3 trucks are where you want to be looking, although you have to get one in the right year range with the right harness connector and you may have to swap out the tailshaft housing. The A4 gurus on that forum will correct/supplement that info.
