Default 4l60 torque converter install question

Excellent customer service from the guys at Performabuilt, every time I've called I've spoken to Allen or Frank, overall very nice and knowledgeable guys.

Installing their level 2 4l60 for my nitrous/heads/cam ls1 setup, and have a quick question.

With bellhousing bolted to engine, and the FTI converter fully seated, i'm measuring the distance between the converter pad and flexplate to be roughly 5/16".

As I need to have spacing between 1/8" and 3/16", I'm assuming ill need to use a washer to correct this excessive gap. 5/16" is roughly .3125", and 1/8 to 3/16 is between .125 and .1875, so am i correct assuming ill need a washer thickness of .125 and .1875 to decrease the current gap of .3125"?

This distance seems pretty large, as I can fit the 5/16" drill bit between these two mounting surfaces.

Also, how are you guys able to move the converter towards the flexplate once the bellhousing is bolted up?

Thanks for the advice guys, pics of the trans are below.

While the 5/16" is a lot, I have heard of similar gaps.
Add washers to get the gap below 3/16".
While I usually use hardware store washers, I mic them to match within .002. This will keep the converter parallel to the flexplate and helps balance the weight of the washers.
If you find you need 2 or 3 washers, wrap masking tape around the outer edges to keep them together for an easier install.
