Default 4L60E Rear Sun Gear Snap Ring

The snap ring on the rear sun gear keeps popping out of place. When this happens it lets the sun gear ride up into the sun shell to the point where the sun gear is grinding into the front reaction carrier shaft. I installed a Sonnax Smart Shell and thought that would solve the problem but it didn’t. Has anyone seen this happen before and if so how did you stop this from happening on your trans?

I would check the endplay on the unit something is putting force on your rear sun gear and the shell pushing the retainer out

I didn't catch you had a thread for this Bbond, The response to your PM.

"I have seen that happen, I just replace the Sun-Gear with a good used one or new. The Snap Ring is HARD spring steel, The snap ring could be distorted. The Groove in the Sun-gear can wear allowing the snap ring to pop out. (it actually walks out)

This condition is usually caused by a worn Sun-Gear Bushing, But once it happens throw the sungear & snap ring away, Install a wide Sonnax bushing in the good/new one.

Endplay is a secondary concern. Take a reading!"

Not a response to anyone that posted to this thread.
